Culture shock

Well...this might came a bit late but I just found out that,

盆踊(Bon Odori) = 盂兰节(Hungry Ghost Festival) !!!

Pardon for my ignorance!

Something like a Buddhist celebration dedicated to remembrance of the dead. It is believed that souls of the departed return to the living during the festival.Of course they share a same origin with similar plot behind...

So the question is how come each and every mid-July or mid-August, there will numerous of so called trend-setters and Y-generations settle down in an open field doing all the dances in Yukata(Japanese bath robe), mesmerizing in the ritual of other ethnic, I bet most of them don't even have clues what are all these about!

And do they even acknowledge the existence of this festival in the Chinese counterpart?Yes, we have it on our own but often being neglected by the young ones because Bon Odori seems more appealing which bear the chances of meeting Japanese chicks while for ours just nothing but burning joss sticks, candles and paper dummies offering(which rather global-unfriendly and ridiculous).Hello~if that's what their main purpose, they can jolly well download Japanese porns few clicks away in front their monitors and watch as many as they like while doing their hanky-panky jobs.

Bon Odori is a festival for younger Japanese to remember their own culture even when they're residing at overseas. For none Japanese like us,I won't stop you from going of course but at least you have to know the meaning behind before you make yourself present at the scene...for like let's say you are interested in knowing Japanese culture. However,if you come in without knowing a shit but blindly live up to other ppl's foolishness of following the trend...better still,go fug yourself!

All in all, Japanese Bon Odori and Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival are the same festival celebrate by Buddhists and ain't an ethnic based festival afterall. The only difference are Chinese and Japanese each celebrates it in their own ways which they are more accustomed to for which they are of different ethnic groups with different cultural backgrounds and mores.
