A glance at my MMK trip's report

Moral Studies Community Service Project:
Trip to the MMK at Wesley Methodist Church,Klang on 13th March 2006 (Sunday)

5:30pm : Arrive at the long anticipate Church at somewhere of Klang after half and hour of car journey and the 8 of us including the lecturer go down from the cars and head towards the church and meet one of the person in charge of there. However,he tells us that the church in front of us has already used as the place for them to conduct English lesson for those foreign immigrants. So they appoint us to go uphill to the other church that will be used as medical dispensation which is the Wesley Methodist Church. It is within walking distance from the first site we went,as along our uphill walking,we could see many others churches at the both sides of the road which are in total of around 5 of them. All are serving for only one purpose,to help out the foreign immigrants from all over Klang Valley.

5.45pm : We are ready to start off our duty assigned to us earlier before we came.I’d chosen the medication part along with Stephanie as we assist other senior volunteers to prescribe and pack up all the medicines.I am astonished as I saw the amount of medicine that arranged in front of us which do not comes cheap. All are given out for free during the time when I’m carrying out my medication duty.Meanwhile,I also get the chance to talk to the other senior volunteers around which never fail to come here every now and then to lend a helping hand without asking for repay. Some of the volunteers are actually a doctor currently but one of the founders of this programme which is Mr. Woon is actually a retired doctor. The others are like nurses, drugs dispenser, businessman and people from all kinds of field. They all happen to help out at the churches here regardless of races and jobs field.Non-Christians are also encouraged to help out at here like me because the basic provenance for each and every religion is no doubt to help the people in need.

6:00pm : Foreign immigrants started to arrive one after another and I’m becoming much more busier subsequently and manage to get my hands in doing the drugs packing works.Where the senior volunteer will tell me how many tablets of drugs I have to scoop out from the drugs bottle and then transfer them into a container to get double check on the amount taken out from the bottle. Finally, assemble the drugs into the white plastic packet with the patient’s name and type of drug written on it and distribute it.We also require to collect prescription that given to patient from doctors and hand it to the senior volunteers.Although most of the foreign immigrants could not even do simple mastering of English and Malay and no doubt it has created some difficulties for the senior volunteers there to actually explain how should they take the drugs prescribed for them accordingly. However, the senior volunteers are all very patient and proficient in handling this kind of situation where they will communicate with the foreign immigrants using a mixture of all kinds of languages mainly English and Malay. From what I’d heard from them, sometimes they even need to learn simple Nepalese,Tamil,Telegu,Thai,Bangala,Burmese,Vietnamese and others in order to communicate with them efficiently.Worse come to worse when sign language are required to carry out too!

7:00 pm : We more or less have finished all our works as no more foreign immigrants coming in anymore. So we started to arrange all the tables and chairs then help to carry them to the store room. While walking towards the store room I notice that there’s some Indians praying inside the church and along I also hear them singing some kinds of carols while holding the holy Bible in their hands.Which later I come to know from a senior volunteer that those are actually the Telegus which is one of the Indian’s ethnic and many of them are actually not Christian in their country but when they came here, they found shelter under the hands of the great Jesus Christ and the Jesus is very much willing to sanctuarise all of them regardless of what religion they come from.At here, the are able to oblivion the feeling of homesick and depression because all the people with the same situation as them get to gather under one roof and please each other and cheer up one another.Hence, they would not feel alone anymore because there are so many people stand by them and giving them spiritual support. After the prayer, there will be light refreshment provides to them as free of charge too.

7:10 pm : While Lina seizes the chance to hand over our little but carrying along with our warmest sincerity of RM 200 donations to Mr.Woon on behalf of the MMK although it won’t do much to them with this small amount of donation but at least we try our best to help them as possible. After we’d done all the jobs,we get to do casual chat with some of the volunteer doctors over there especially Mr. Woon to seek for their advise on planning to study for Medicine degree.Well, not for me in this case due to I’m a art stream student but I manage to ask in depth about the founding of this programme and some inside out which truly inspired and touched me from the bottom of my heart! The founders here actually started this programme using their own savings and they actually do not ask for any feedback through out all these years. In my opinion, they are some of the great Samaritans in our society which can be very good example of role models for the others to follow on.Just ask a normal people that how many good deeds they had done to others in their lifetimes?Apparently,I think the likelihood for the answer will be as less as possible for them.Even if you cannot afford on donation but you can give out a pair of helping hands right? It is not difficult to achieve after all as it may embrace your conscience and enlighten the angelical side of you with only a little bit of effort! Why not then?Spare a thought and sympathy for them…

Approximately 7:30 pm : Mission accomplish!Set off for SEAFOOD dinner!

P/S : During this whole community service project,I’d learn that it is not easy to overcome homesickness especially for those foreign immigrants that came to a country that completely looks strange to them and the citizens treated them as outsiders where often give them queer looking or look down on them.Unfortunately,we’d also heard that recently there was one foreign immigrants committed suicide over that area due to severe depression. How sad to hear that! They could have just go back to their homeland if they feel homesick but it is easy to say but they actually have their own family back there to support. The worst situation is where some of the immigrants are came from countries which affected by the backdated 1226 inexorable tsunami incident. In this case, some of them have actually lost their love ones overnight where those being their one and only spiritual support when they are far from their homeland to keep them going on and strong!

Besides, their little wages are also unable to allow them spending extra despite sending money back to their family. So free medical treatments and medications are really essential for them provided that they will most probably cannot afford for a better nutrient food daily.Eventually, their antibody to prevent against diseases will deteriorate and will easily fall sick.

Without all the members of MMK to help them out, the crime rates at that particular area may increase as a result of desperation such as they may turn out to be pick-pocket,snatch thief, burglar, conman, shoplifter and so on in order to survive and lead better life.Apart from that, thay may often being overlooked by society around them which can cause them to produce hatred to society and gradually they will give vent to the public facilities or innocence citizens around.

Other than that,we have to learn to not take things for granted if possible and be satisfied of current status where we have our parents by us all the time when we need them.If possible, lend a helping hand to those people that less fortunate than us instead of discriminate them as from the lower strata of society.Who knows that our little contribution on them might benefits them for a lifetime? So,we should try every possible way to help them where donation may not always have to be the first priority to succor to aid them but most of the time what they needed most are loving, care, gracious, humane, understanding and consideration. No doubt these are what the money can’t buy.

Hence,be good to them from now on .You may find that it’s not hard to get along with them.Sometimes, things that seems inferior and trivial to you may very much enlighten them.Look at what they’ve contributed to our society, without them I think the blue-collar labour market will be withered and this can causes very long run affection to our country’s economy since most of the locals don’t willing to take up that kind of jobs due to its inferiority and the strong self-esteem that they can’t seem to be let go easily.Contrarily,we should have thank them as part of our economic development given that they received such small portion of pay but then have to fork out so much of strength.

Summing up,it is pointless to be having a person with high in intellectual but less in morality. They can’t be considered as an all rounded person. There’s none of a person which is immaculate in this world but at least if you practice the moral values in your existence, naturally there will be a halo suspends on top of you and a pair of invisible feathers profoundly embedded themselves on the back of your body. For example, the MMK members and crews that persistently sacrifice for the foreign immigrants in need and selflessly contribute themselves to this whole programme to make it successful and participable.Last but not least,I need to salute to them and give them my greatest respect as they have been categorized as Samaritans where they unceasingly practicing altruism’s doings.
